The New York Times is reporting that top US colleges are not affected by a recession when it comes to new applications for admission. Yale, Harvard, and Stanford are just some of the schools that are reporting higher numbers comparing to the previous year. Some, like Brown, are reporting a more than 20 percent increase. Harvard is admitting only 7 percent of 29,112 applicants. Some liberal arts colleges, on the other hand, are not doing as well. Williams College is reporting a 20 percent drop. The good news for both US and foreign students is that their admission rate will go up, but this does not guarantee that more students will be able to afford the increasing cost of tuition.
